Cadd9 chord: major added ninth
Cadd9 is the major added ninth chord on C: C, E, G and D (1–3–5–9). Cadd9 stacks the root C, the major third E, the perfect fifth G and the major ninth D. The add9 adds the ninth to the major triad without including the seventh.
Notes in Cadd9: C – E – G – DFormula: 1 – 3 – 5 – 9In the formula, the numbers count steps of the major scale starting from the note that names the chord; "b" lowers a half step, "#" raises one — and a slash names the bass note.
It is one of the best ways to enrich a chord without raising the tension too much.
