Delete your account and your data
This page explains how to delete your Chord and Fret account and exactly what disappears. You can do it yourself, inside the app, in under a minute, or ask by e-mail, without installing the app again.
If you never created an account, there is nothing here to delete
The app works entirely without signing up, and with no signup nothing of yours ever reaches our server. In that case your data is only on the device: uninstalling the app takes all of it with you.
To clear it without uninstalling, use your system settings. On Android: Settings → Apps → the app → Storage → Clear data. On iPhone: deleting the app removes its data.
How to delete, step by step
- Open the app and sign in to the account you want to delete.
- Go to Settings and tap the Account tab.
- Tap “Delete Account”, right below “Sign out”.
- The screen shows what will be deleted, what stays on the device and, if you have a subscription, its card. To keep a copy, tap “Download my data first”.
- Tap “Delete Account” and confirm with “Delete forever”. On iPhone, if you sign in with Apple, you also confirm on Apple’s own screen; closing that screen cancels, and nothing is deleted.
- “Account deleted” appears. Tap “Done” to go back to the app, now signed out.
Deletion is immediate and irreversible. There is no undo, and afterwards not even we can bring it back.
The same path exists under “My data and privacy”, in Settings › Your account and your data: the “Delete account and data” button at the end of that screen opens the same deletion screen.
Before deleting, take your library with you
The deletion screen has the “Download my data first” button: it produces a file with everything of yours, profile, devices, subscriptions and the whole library, and you choose where to send it. The same export lives under “My data and privacy”, as “Download my data”. Worth doing before you delete, because afterwards you cannot.
What is deleted
- your profile: account identifier, e-mail and display name;
- the link to your Google or Apple account;
- every registered device and every session — you are signed out everywhere;
- your synced library: saved chords, charts and lyrics, setlists, progressions, folders, favourite scales and notes;
- your synced preferences;
- the notification key.
After that, nothing on the list above stays on our servers. The few exceptions, required by law or needed so you do not lose what you paid for, are right below.
What does not go away
- Your notebook, on this device. The charts, chords and scales saved on the phone stay there, with no account. To delete them too, uninstall the app.
- The record that a deletion happened. It holds the description of the act — who asked, what and when — and never the deleted data itself. Retention: 5 years.
- The server access log, kept by the hosting provider: 6 months (Internet Civil Framework, Law 12.965/2014, art. 15).
- Whatever the store holds: your purchase belongs to the App Store or Google Play, and their record of it is theirs.
- An encrypted fingerprint of your Google or Apple sign-in, with no name and no e-mail. It serves one purpose: if you create an account again with the same sign-in, you can restore the purchase you made in the store. On its own it identifies no one, and someone who only knows the purchase details cannot use it.
- The payment notices the store sent us about your purchase: whatever could tie a notice to you is erased; only the fact that a notice arrived, and when, is kept for tax purposes. Retention: 5 years.
- If you had allowed marketing e-mails, the proof of that permission and of your leaving: the dates, where it was given and the version of the text, with the e-mail kept only as an encrypted fingerprint. It serves to show, if needed, that we only e-mail people who said yes. Retention: 5 years after you left.
Deleting the account does not cancel the subscription
This is the most common mistake, and it costs money: deleting the account here does not stop the store from charging you. Cancel in the store as well.
If you have a subscription, the deletion screen itself shows the card “Your subscription goes on until you cancel”, with the “Manage Subscription” button, which opens the store’s subscriptions. On iPhone there is also “Request a Refund”, which leads to Apple’s refund page. If you would rather go straight to the store:
- iPhone or iPad: Settings → your name → Subscriptions → pick the app → Cancel Subscription.
- Android: Google Play → your profile picture → Payments and subscriptions → Subscriptions → pick the app → Cancel subscription.
The lifetime purchase has no recurring charge: there is nothing to cancel.
If you cannot sign in, or already uninstalled the app
Without signing in, the deletion screen is out of reach: it works from your own sign-in, and that is deliberate, so that nobody can delete someone else’s account. In that case, and also if you already uninstalled the app or would rather ask in writing, send the request to privacidade@cifraebraco.app. There is no need to install the app again. We answer within 15 days, the deadline set by art. 19 of the Brazilian LGPD.
Write from the account’s own e-mail address if you can: that is what lets us confirm the request is yours.
