Coco on guitar

Coco on guitar: the strumming pattern “coco de roda”, in 2/4, with audio on its own page. On the acoustic guitar, a chord progression comes to life as full, ringing shapes, with the low string anchoring the bass and the rest filling out the harmony.

Coco is sung percussion from Brazil's Northeast: quick verses, cracking handclaps, and a repeating pulse that drags everyone onto the dance floor. Here are the style's strumming patterns — which can be understood as the dry, insistent figures that recreate that contagious clapping drive.
