Coladeira on cavaquinho
Coladeira on cavaquinho: the strumming pattern “fast, from Cape Verde”, in 2/4, with audio on its own page. On the cavaquinho a chord progression comes out bright and rhythmic; the four high strings pack the notes close together, so each shape sounds compact and lively.
From the islands of Cape Verde comes coladeira: upbeat, danceable, and good-humored, with a light sway that invites movement from the very first measure. Here you'll find the genre's strumming patterns — which are simply the rolling rhythmic figures that give the songs their sunny spirit.
